The 18th Airlift Squadron was first activated in 1942. It was finally deactivated in 1995 at McGuire AFB New Jersey. In addition to the C-141 Starlifter, 1968 – 1995, the 18th also flew the C-118 Liftmaster, 1954–1961, and the C-135 Stratolifter, 1961–1966.
